International seminar

Sustainable management of grass surfaces

Lipica, 17 March 2011

 


International seminar was part of educational program "International school of sport and leisure infrastructure management” infrastructure for sport and leisure." The seminar was held on Thursday, 17th March 2011, from 9 to 16 hours in Equestrian center Lipica in Slovenia. It was organized by IASLIM – International Association of Sport and Leisure Infrastructure Management, Sport Center Association of Slovenia, College Grm Novo mesto – center of biotechnology and tourism, AB d.o.o. Žirovnica, Zeleni inženiring s.p. Ljubljana and partners: Rain Bird GmbH Germany, Optimax GmbH Germany, Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd United Kingdom, Indigrow Ltd United Kingdom, G&G Hauser, Golf & landscape Austria, Waste2Water Ltd United Kingdom, Symbio Ltd United Kingdom, Football Academy FC Ipswich United Kingdom, Football Federation of Slovenia and Green Consulting d.o.o. Slovenia. Lecturers were from England, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovenia. Participants of the seminar were managers of sport and leisure infrastructure, golf centers, business product managers and students from Slovenia, Germany, Croatia and Serbia. Participants have received seminar materials and technical documents for products and services for maintaining of golf courses. Materials were printed in English and Slovenian language. All lectures were supported by video presentations. Foreign speakers had consecutive translation from English to Slovenian and vice versa. Participants received professional training certificates. During the seminar business meetings were organized, presentations of the companies, promotion of products and services. Business consultancy was presented to the managers of sport centers and professionals, by the companies: SMG Sportplatzmaschinenbau Voehringen, Germany, Rain Bird GmbH Germany, Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd United Kingdom, Indigrow Ltd United Kingdom, – sport scoreboards & timers, Boštjan Pavlič, s.p. Subject 12112: Managing grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Topic: Influence of selection of fertilizer to protection of environment. Lecturer: PhD Jože Podgoršek, Head of educational center Grm Novo mesto Slovenia, Center of biotechnology and tourism. Criteria for selection of fertilizers. Methods of selection of fertilizers for specific types of grassland. Ecological effects of fertilizers on the selection of environmental protection.

 

Subject 12112: Managing grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Topic: Planning of watering system and monitoring. Lecturer: Tomas Kurdziel, Rain Bird Ltd, Czech Republic. (consecutive translation) Types of irrigation systems. Methods for designing irrigation systems for lawns. Organization of irrigation monitoring of grassy areas.

 

Subject 12112: Managing grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Topic: Support for developing micro organisms for better quality of land. Lecturer: Martin Ward, Symbio Ltd, United Kingdom. (consecutive interpretation) Introduction of micro organisms and their impact on improving soil properties. Methods of stimulation of micro organisms.

 

Subject 12112: Managing grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Topic: Usage of growth hormones for strengthening the plants and slower growth (less mowing). Lecturer: PhD Christa Lung, Optimax GmbH, Germany. (consecutive translation) Presentation of growth hormones. Ways to use growth hormones for strengthening plants and slower growth. Effects of strengthening plants and their growth on mowing grass.

 

Subject 12112: Managing grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Topic: Sustainable management of grass surfaces. Lecturer: Alan Ferguson, head Groundsman, Football Academy, FC Ipswich, United Kingdom and Scott Forrest, Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd, United Kingdom. (consecutive translation). Presentation of grassland management in the Football Academy in Ipswich Town. System of organization and management of sustainable maintenance of grassland and football pitches.

 

Subject 12112: Managing grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Topic: Usage of electrical machines for grass maintenance. Lecturer: Scott Forrest, Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd, United Kingdom. (consecutive translation) Types of electrical machines for turf maintenance. Ecological benefits of electric machines. Methods of their use and maintenance.

 

Round table: Sustainable management of grass surfaces for sport and leisure. Round table was not executed because the presenters were not present because of business activities.

 

Sightseeing of the equestrian center Lipica was organized for the lecturers and participants of international seminar.
